Town urged to remember heroTown urged to honour forgotten war victim

A WAR historian is calling on his town to honour a soldier from Manchester.

Writer Mark Marsay wants the name of Lance Corporal Frederick Parry added to the cenotaph in Scarborough.

The 22-year-old soldier from Moston, was on holiday in the town  when he was killed in a German naval attack in 1917.

The memorial was unveiled  in 1923 and Mr Marsay said: "Scarborough Council just doesn't seem to be interested in correcting the error which I think should be carried out before the Millennium.

"The problem is local people were asked which names should be included in 1923. He was not included because he didn't know anyone in Scarborough."
